A call for Support to Ocean Responsability

A call for Support to Ocean Responsability WaterEvolution

The scientific and conservation community urges the world to develop innovative partnerships to accelerate and secure new long-term funding for sustainable ocean management (a), to apply and improve environmental standards and transparency in supply chains that affect the oceans and to harness the unique skill set of the
business and private sector (b) to help addressing the challenges that our ‘blue planet’ is facing.

We now have a crucial opportunity to turn words into facts by developing innovative partnerships and engage with one of the most powerful maritime industry clusters, and create a call for commitment to ocean responsibility while implementing a new model to achieve structured funding for conservation.

We acknowledge the failure of the ‘business as usual’ approach and recognize the need for alternative and structured funding models for conservation initiatives.
It is time for a new marine governance, able to create a positive link between industry and conservation and, at the same time, generate structural, long-term funding opportunities for ocean sustainability.

We do not just envision the change, we know that is possible to provide a win-win situation (c).

By using computational sustainability (d), the production process of a renowned Italian shipyard was optimized and the company was able to achieve significant cost savings, substantial ecological footprint reduction and structural funding to support strategic scientific and marine conservation activities.

2015 is on many fronts the beginning of a new era; the UN year for global action for people and planet.
The time for change has arrived.

On September 25th, 2015, over 150 international representatives will gather for the united nations sustainable development summit where the resolution for
“Transforming our world: the 2030 agenda for sustainable development” will be formally adopted.

These sustainable development goals (sdgs) aim to end poverty, promote prosperity and people’s well-being while protecting the environment by 2030.

“We are determined to take the bold and transformative steps which are urgently needed to shift the world onto a sustainable and resilient path.(e)”.

If we work together, we can reach goal 14 to conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development.

“As we embark on this collective journey, we pledge that no one will be left behind.(e)”
